In the design of any UK building services network, the Gate Valve remains the primary choice for on/off isolation. Unlike regulation valves, a Gate Valve is designed to be fully open or fully closed, offering a distinct engineering advantage: minimal pressure drop. When open, the gate retracts fully into the bonnet, leaving the flow path unobstructed—crucial for maintaining pump efficiency in large-scale HVAC systems.
At FIFFCO GLOBAL LTD, we supply a comprehensive range of Gate Valves tailored for the commercial and industrial sectors. From compact Brass units for terminal runs to heavy-duty Cast Iron valves for plant rooms, our stock ensures your Low Temperature Hot Water (LTHW) and Chilled Water (CHW) systems remain compliant and serviceable.
We understand that material selection dictates the longevity of the valve. Fiffco stocks the full spectrum of materials to suit specific pressure tiers and media types, strictly adhering to BS EN 1171 (for Iron) and BS 5154 (for Copper alloys).
Pressure Ratings: Fully rated for PN16 (16 Bar) and PN25 (25 Bar) static pressures, ensuring safety across standard and high-rise UK installations.
The Gate Valve is the “Service Valve” of the industry. It is rarely used for frequent operation but is critical for maintenance strategies.
When a system needs draining or a component fails, you need isolation valves you can trust. Fiffco is the preferred partner for UK M&E contractors.
The main use of a Gate Valve is Isolation (On/Off) with minimal flow resistance. It should never be used for throttling (regulating flow), as the high velocity of fluid passing under a partially open gate will erode the seat and cause vibration (“chatter”). For regulation, use a Globe Valve.
Compliance depends on the specific model and seating material. Our Resilient Seated Gate Valves (EPDM wedge) are typically WRAS Approved for potable water. Metal-seated Cast Iron valves are generally reserved for closed-loop heating and cooling systems. Please check the specific datasheet.
Gate Valves can be installed in horizontal or vertical pipework. However, in horizontal lines, we recommend installing the valve with the stem vertically upright. Installing with the stem horizontal or upside down allows sediment to accumulate in the bonnet, which can prevent the valve from closing fully over time.
Secure your system with robust isolation solutions that minimise energy loss. Trust Fiffco for Gate Valves that meet the highest British Standards.
